Trans Mountain Pipeline decision

There seems to be some confusion regarding what was approved recently by the National Energy Board (NEB) with regard to the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline application. Specifically the NEB has approved Trans Mountain's Firm Service application. the NEB has NOT approved the twinning of the Pipeline; Trans Mountain hasn't applied to twin the pipeline.

Enbridge First Nations and Business Summit

A couple days ago, Enbridge hosted a Summit with Business and Aboriginal leaders from most of the First Nations communities along the proposed route for its Northern Gateway Pipeline Project. The Summit was attended by over 350 people and there was keen interest from both businesses and communities about the opportunities offered by the Project. Northern Gateway is committed to a goal of $300 million in Aboriginal procurement and services contracts associated with construction. During the Summit, Northern Gateway announced it had committed to $1.5 million in training and education to be avavilable with matching funding expected from both provincial governments (BC & Alberta) and Federal sources. The project is also offering Aboriginal equity ownership and other project inducements which, in total, set the expected benefits to Aboriginal communities at $1 billion.

NEB Grants CFOL Leave to Open Ojay Pipeline

On November 24, 2010,  the NEB issued Order GPLO-C357-07-2010 granting Canadian Forest Oil Ltd. Leave to Open for the Ojay Pipeline Project from LSD a-65-A, 93-I-9 in British Columbia to LSD 13-9-64-13 W6M in Alberta. This is a significant milestone for HMA as we prepared the Section 58 Application for this pipeline as well as assisted in responses to Information Requests, submission of compliance documents and the application for Leave to Open.

Westcoast (Spectra) Dawson Project Pre Hearing Developments

During October 2010 a series of regulatory filings were undertaken in relation to the Westcoast (Spectra) Energy Dawson Project. On Oct 5 2010 Westcoast filed Information Responses to the NEB, the Peace Environment and Safety Trustees Society (PESTS), the South Dawson Landowners Committee (SDLC), Canadian Association of Energy and Pipeline Landowners Associations (CAEPLA), and Murphy Oil Co. In response, PESTS noted Westcoast had failed to respond to IR No.18 regarding the operation of the Spectra West Doe Plant.

Keystone XL Avoids Detailed Route Hearing

On Oct 13 2010 the NEB announced that a Detailed Route Hearing will be held in relation to the Keystone XL Pipeline (KXLP) Project. The Detailed Route Hearing would focus on the Alberta Section, specifically the lands related to a particular landowner.

The Canadian Common Ground Alliance

Since 2003, Regional CGA Partners have emerged and gathered momentum and strength across Canada. And since that time, each of those Regional Partnerships has experienced challenge and tremendous success. In many respects, the cross-Canada growth of the CGA was largely due to the support extended by one Regional Partner to another. As the Regional Partnerships evolved, however, it became clear that a unified voice was necessary to address Canadian damage prevention issues of national interest. As a result, the Canadian Common Ground Alliance was formed.
